Church Heroes …
Meeting Needs in a Post-Roe World

Jasmine is a sweet client of ours who initially felt unable and unequipped to keep her baby. She had no family support and had to cut off friendships due to unhealthy behaviors. We were able to offer support and resources that encouraged her to keep her baby but did not have a way to accommodate unplanned needs. When Jasmine was placed on weight-lifting restrictions by her doctor she started having trouble with simple tasks like carrying her groceries home.  Jasmine expressed frustration and was experiencing loneliness with the lack of trustworthy relationships. Something as simple as a wagon and a friend that could help her haul groceries to her apartment would be life changing. When we offered to connect her with a local church she said “I’d love for a church to contact me, that’s way less scary than trying out a new church on my own.”

Through CarePortal, a local church stepped in and accepted the request for the wagon. A ladies group at the church delivered the wagon, along with a hot cup of coffee — just what a new mom needed! Meeting her need outside of the church setting allowed Jasmine to feel comfortable and connected. She now attends the church regularly!

While we already provide medical, practical, emotional, and spiritual counseling, and meet some material needs, we cannot be the church to our clients! That is where CarePortal comes in — an invitation to churches to develop a relationship, meet a need, share Christ, and disciple these families.

You won’t regret stepping out of your church building to be the Church right where our clients need you.

The Pregnancy Center has been involved in CarePortal for 7 years. We submit requests so  churches can be involved and have been amazed at the way Sunday School classes, home groups, and entire congregations have jumped at the opportunity to provide compassionate support to our clients.  Our heart has always been to connect our clients to the local church where more seeds can be planted in their lives.  When churches get involved, our community is stronger, our relationships are deeper and lives are changed for eternity.

In a Post-Roe world, as more women are choosing life, clients like Jasmine need the community and local church to engage with them when they are facing economic or emotional challenges.
